Getting Your Head Straight To Start Making Money

Recently I was thinking If I am ever going to make money while following the various passions in my life I’m going to have to get my head straight. This didn’t mean i wanted to start focusing solely on the next shiny dollar I’m getting, but more along the lines of putting a bit of spring into the other facets of my life. I figured that doing this would definitely help me get my money in order as well as make my creative side feel refreshed anew. So what are some ways to achieve this task of order and refreshment?

  • Learn To Meditate – Meditation is a great way to clear your mind, not everything in life is easy and one of the essential skills to get you through the tough times is meditation. Whether your about to go into a meeting, about to go on stage, having family problems/relationship problems, need to get in touch with yourself or your own spirituality, or if your just having a stressful day meditation is one of the best things for that stress. There are classes in most areas that are either very cheap or free and that sounds mighty good for this life changing lesson.
  • Get Up Earlier – One thing that’s worth betting on is if your getting up late your probably not getting much done. Getting up early is a beautiful thing, it makes life just that little bit more worth living. Being up early means your probably active before the rest of your household which means you get a little bit more peace and less distraction when getting things done. This is the perfect time to start writing, set yourself goals, practice meditation, do your daily exercise or anything else that you like to do uninterrupted. Telling yourself your not a morning person is not an excuse, its an attitude that’s worth changing on a personal level. Your quality of life will be better.
  • Acknowledge What Your Good At - In all honesty, who knows you better then yourself? It’s time to start thinking about, and focusing on what your really good at. Knowing this side of yourself leads to all sorts of opportunities that would have been missed otherwise. Are you a good musician? Are you a people person? Are you more organized than average? Are you funny? A good writer? Empathetic?…All of these traits are useful in the modern world and knowing what your good at gives you confidence in yourself, this confidence will show in all aspects of your life.
  • Exercise Your Imagination – “You are only limited by your own imagination.” I couldn’t think of words more true if i tried. A child might realize that what they are imagining isn’t real, but they also might understand that it is still fun to imagine it none the less. It is in this same way that you must know that an idea, no-matter how unrealistic is still a worthwhile idea as all ideas lead to opportunities. There are many ways to exercise this important human function such as reading good books (fiction is great for the imagination), develop a love for art if you don’t already have one, watch quality films, learn a language, listen to good music, read new blogs or start writing.
  • Get The Productivity Bug - Being productive isn’t a state of mind, a mood, a work ethic or a random occurrence. It’s a lifestyle. When you wake up (hopefully earlier now) you should jump out of bed knowing exactly what your going to do today and how you plan to achieve it. Constantly set yourself goals, make your life easier, work on things until they are finished, network and most of all enjoy making things happen in your life.
  • Set Yourself Goals – Most people underestimate the importance of this little beauty. Goals are the simplest way to get all that mixed up mumbo-jumbo swirling around that head of yours and cast it onto a nicely organized screen or notebook. In my opinion everyone should be setting themselves goals, not just financially but for everything. As a musician I always found that if i just expected to get better the pace would be slow, but once i started setting myself real goals with time limits and expectations I found that i would improve ten-fold in the same amount of time. As well as this I found I could keep much better track of my progress and get a much better sense of improvement. Set yourself hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and lifelong goals. I will definitely be writing more on this subject.
  • Think Laterally - Lateral thinking is a way of addressing a problem or thought pattern from a different angle. It is widely used in marketing and advertising for its ability to make people think about the product just a little bit more. Learning to think laterally is a skill definitely worth your while as it has given many entrepreneurs an edge over their competition in a flooded market. Also humor is strongly based on lateral thinking and watching comedy routines is a great way to learn this. A good article on lateral thinking is this little piece by lifehack.org
  • Organize Yourself – De-clutter – Organizing yourself and the world around you is one of the best things you can do to clear your mind. Firstly, organize your bedroom. Your place of rest should be one of the most important places for you. Having your room organized will give you a good energy for sleeping and in the mornings. Organize your entire house, office, car and your computer. Knowing where everything is really takes away a lot of that babble in your mind as you stress to find your keys. your wallet, your underwear, that file to send to a client or anything else.
  • Organize Yourself Financially – In terms of preparing yourself to start making money, organizing yourself financially seems like quite a logical step. Set up the right accounts and develop the right attitude towards money and how you handle it, this will be invaluable to you as you work towards freedom. Most people typically think of money as a lump sum and this is detrimental to themselves financially. You must learn to control where your money goes and how you can save and spend it. Read my article on this subject here.
  • Maintain A Positive Attitude - Now I’m not telling you to be a Ned Flanders type but a positive attitude goes a long way in this world. Having a positive attitude affects how people perceive you in day to day life, it helps you become happy and stay happy. Having a positive attitude doesn’t mean loving absolutely everything you do, everyone has things they don’t like, but having the right attitude can make those things much less boring, much less difficult, much less overwhelming and most of all much less stressful. A great article on this from a great blog is right here from dumblittleman.com
  • Start Networking - No matter who you are you should already be networking. Networking is a way to actively seek out opportunities for yourself. Every chance you get to be social and grow your network of important contacts will pay off, I promise. This is a way to truly grab that metaphorical bull by the horns and get out there, whether its seeking out new jobs, new entrepreneurial endeavors, a good electrician, a lawyer, a marketer, or anyone else that may serve you well in life, make friends. Also remember that you have your own services to offer, whatever they may be, this is a great way to develop a strong bond with contacts….Well that sounded rather dodgy, but you get the point.
  • Be Confident – Now here’s the interesting one. Confidence is quite probably the most important thing you can contain in your life. The variety of points shown here all lead to self confidence in different ways. No matter how unsure you are of something/yourself if you display confidence you will be received well. If for instance you need to build a new client base for a product and you approach a prospective client, if you display an utter confidence in your product you will more than likely be leaving witha new client and maybe even an addition to your personal network. Now if you were to approach that situation displaying a lack of confidence you will most likely not be selling anything or might possibly be ignored altogether. So hold your head up high and strut, I will be writing lots more on this subject in the near future.

Until Next Time,

Goodbye
