Sometimes productivity escapes us, when you first buy a Mac you usually feel that its going to increase your productivity, help you easily get on top of your tasks and be easy to sort out what you’re doing with your life. This is not always the case, yes Macs are easy to use and organize but there is a lot of functionality that can be added with just a few simple apps.
Here is a tasty list of applications to increase that productivity:
Quicksilver - In my opinion this is the best application launcher available. It has quite a steep learning curve but is definitely worth learning. If you haven’t used an application launcher before Quicksilver is the one to try. – Free
1Password - I use this one every day, a brilliant password manager and form filler that integrates perfectly into Firefox, Safari and other browsers. This thing holds your internet passwords, generates custom passwords for you, keeps your bank details safe and creates protected notes. There is also an iPhone version and Palm version available which both have one button sync. - Premium but the trial version can keep up to 20 passwords before you have to pay. Either way it is well worth the money just look up reviews.
WriteRoom - This is an excellent productivity helper for writers, blogger’s or anyone else that needs to write distraction free. WriteRoom eliminates the distractions that come with having a multitude of features and gives you the bare basics for writing. Premium with a free trial
Apple Money - I love this program for managing my finances, it is beautiful and simple to use. You can set up budgets and keep track of the small amounts of money. Especially useful for tracking cash. Premium
ForeverSave - This program is a gem, it features the ability to save everything you are currently working on simultaneously. You can set it to save everything at regular intervals or only when you specify. It does backups and archives. Ahh… just look at it. Premium
Lumina Timer - This app is designed to help you keep track of your time, whether it be for personal records, an indication of productivity, invoicing clients or anything else. You can set it up the way you like it with various tasks and projects. Free
Firefox - It goes without saying that Firefox, being one of the most popular browsers currently, boosts that productivity in a big way. The basic features in the download are fairly standard but the plug-in’s are where it really stands out from the rest. There are plugins to do just about anything on the web you could dream of. Options for web designers, photographers, bloggers, business and just regular use. Ive listed a few below with more in an article coming soon. Free
Firebug – Great web developer toolkit, lets you preview CSS and HTML changes on a site without actually modifying anything.
Speed Dial – Bookmark system, great time saver to get to the pages you use the most. Check it out to see what i mean
XMarks – Bookmark synchronization system. Never lose your bookmarks again.
1Password – As mentioned before, pretty much the best thing ever. Maybe its just my extreme natural password forgetfulness. I just like fun words.
I will do a longer version of this article soon, just getting inspired.
Goodbye for now,
Louis
